BOTANICAL SOCIETY

Botanical Society 'Bonanique' started its activities for the academic year 2010-11 by organising a Fresher's Party for the new batch of B.Sc. (Hons.) 1st Year. The Freshers's Welcome was an amalgamation of fun, education and inspiration for the young students who stepped into the college life. In August 2010 to celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity a seminar was organised, Dr Jaswant Sakhi, an eminent professor, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi delivered a talk on "Conservation strategies adopted by Indian Tribals with special emphasis on Bishnoi Community".

The Society also organised various field trips. Students for B.Sc. (Hons.) 2nd year, under the guidance of Dr. Ishwar Singh, in-charge excursions and Dr. M.S. Rawat went to the hilly tracks of Nanital, Mukhteshwar and Jim Corbett National Park to explore the flora of the region. The students were exposed to the field studies and taught exploration, collection and preservation methods.

In order to continue the pursuit of popularizing plant science, Prof. A.K. Pandey, Delhi University was invited to deliver a talk on promoting Plant Taxonimy and generate interest among the students for this very important subject. Prof. Pandey meticulously drew the attention of the importance of the subject and its relevance in modern times.

Society also organised its annual festival 'Floristics 2011' on 17th February, 2011. Prof. A.k. Bhatnagar, Department of Botany, Delhi University was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Bhatnagar who has taught in the Hans Raj College, delivered on excellent talk on "Climate change in India and its effect on Agriculture Crops with special emphasis on Wheat". Students of the department participated enthusiastically in the discussions.. Many other activities such as Pot Painting, Rangoli, Flower Arrangement and Best out of the Waste competitions were organised. Events witnessed the participation of students from various campus college and other Delhi University and IP College.

Botanical Quiz witnessed participation from many teams and was a hit programme of the day. Valedictory and Prize Distribution Function was also organised in which senior faculty members awarded the students.

Students of the Departmewnt of Botany also participated in the "B.M. Johri Rolling Shield" the most coveted shield.

Ishan and Aniket's team was adjudge as the Best Team in the junior Category.

They were given certificates and Medals.  Students also competitions and won various award, cash prizes and medals. Anurag Deep of Botany (Hons.) 3rd year won various awards, cash prizes and medals. We also won many competiontion in Kirori Mal College and Khalsa College.

A feild trip was also organised to Wazirabad and adjacent areas to study the local flora for all the students. Society remained very active by informing students about the latest developments in plant sciences by posting items on its Wall Magazine.

The Society plans to close its activities for the academic year by awarding meritorious students and bidding farewell to third year students.
