The Chemical Society of Hans Raj
College is happy to have a membership of over 400 students.
The chemical society started the
session with inaugural lecture by Dr. Pawan Sikka, Scientist,
Department of Science and Technology, on "Emerging Opportunities for
Science Students".
Teachers' Day and Departmental Freshers' party were organised in September, giving the first year
students a glimpse of the celebrations.
The Ministry of Science and
Technology along with the Department of Science and Technology,
Government of India, here introduced a special scheme "Innovation in
Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)". Under this scheme
"Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)" has been awarded to our
students Surender Goyal and Sumit both from 1st year. The award is
worth Rs. 80,000 per annum each. The Society congratulate our
achievers.
To take the students beyond the
classroom syllabi, the society organised a "Power Point Paper
Presentation" and "Poster Making" event on 12th November 2010. The
efforts put in by the students were highly appreciated by one and
all. This helped them to participate in the Paper Presentation
competitions held at different colleges of Delhi University. To name
a few Nitish and Vaishali of 1st year, Sneha and Surabhi of IIIrd
participated and Priya and Sapna of IIIrd year won IInd prize at
ARSD college, Surabhi and Sneha of IIIrd year participated and
Prachi of 1st year won IInd Prize at Daulat Ram College. Priya of
IIIrd year 1st Prize and Nitish and vaishali of 1st year won IInd
prize at Hindu College. These student also patricipated at Kirori
Mal College.Four of our students worked on a project on "Nanocrystals"
at IIT Delhi. Around 20 students worked on summer projects in the
Department of Chemistry, Hans Raj College and four of them : Kritika
Arora of IIIrd year, Ritu, Akanksha Gupta and Shilpy Bansal of IInd
year, submitted written project reports. Students also worked on
projects at different institution like IISER, Mohali.
Four of our Students; Rhea Rama,
Leena Aggarwal, Akanksha Dhingra of IInd Year and Priya of IIIrd
Year visited IIT Allahabad to Participate in the week long "Third
Science Conclave- A Congregation of Nobal Leureates" and were
enriched by the experience of meeting the two Nobal Laureates- Prof.
Roald Hoffmann and Prof. Richard R.Ernst.
Few of our students got a chance to
attend a lecture on "Environment and Sustainable Developments" by
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Azad. Three students; Vaishali Chugh of Ist
Year, Sheeba Khan of IInd Year and Priya of IIIrd year, represented
the chemistry department during DU Vice Chancellor - Student Meet.
Our enthusiastic and dynamic
students have been participating in quiz competitions, symposiums
and workshops being held at different organisations and making a
name for themselves. A contest "Know thy Institution" was held on
4th March 2011 in the Department to sensitize the students about
their Department College and its surroundings. Around 100 students
participated; both 1st and IInd prizes were awarded.
About 40 students attended "PUTECH
Conference-2011" and visited the exhibition related to Polyurethane
held at India Expo Centre, Greater Noida on 11th March 2011.
A group of about fifteen students
participated in a two day DBT sponsored seminar in SGBT Khalsa
College. University of Delhi held on 17th & 18th March 2011. One day
seminar was organised for the students of the department on 26th
March 2011. Prof. A.K. Tyagi Dept. of Biochemistry. South Campus,
Dr. V.c. Kalia, Senior Scientists, IGIB, CSIR and Dr. S.C. Mittal,
Director, Premier Forensic Science Institute, gave lectures in their
respective fields of specialisation.
During the session the Department
under a major transition with five of our esteemed colleagues. Dr.
Nayyar, Dr.Chaddha, Dr. Sindhu, Dr. Manku and Dr. Prabhakar
retiring, the Chemical Society will miss their constant guidance.
Nine young entrants; Dr. Yogesh,
Dr. Manoj, Dr. Anjali, Dr. Chetna, Dr. Pratibha, Mrs. Jyoti, and Ms.
Aparna Garg have joined the Department, the Chemical Society
welcomes them.
