Swaranjali - the Hans Raj Music
Society has established quite a name in the University music circuit
for many years now, and the last year (2010-2011) has been another
phenomenal year for the society, with lots of new achievements. From
the beginning of the year, be it IIT Kanpur, to the year-end Delhi
University fests, Swaranjali has once again shown that it not only
achieves benchmarks but also creates them afresh.
The year started with the ECA
auditions where Hans Raj College selected 3 out of very many
participants who had applied for the limited ECA seat. S.
Aishwaryalaxmi
(carnatic vocal) and Sagar Chawla (Western and
Indian Classical Pianist) were selected. Out of very talented
freshers who joined this year, the 12 best were selected to join the
society.
To add colour to the picture the
devotional stuti of Goddess Kali (originally composed by Music
meastro Pandit Ajay Chakraborty and Suresh Wadekar) was added to the
list of the society. "The composition chosen by us was the most
difficult one, and at the same perhaps the most beautiful one too -
and they sung it really well" said the judges at Ramjas College.
S. Aishwaryalaxmi came out with
flying colours performing carnatic vocal and Prateek Narsimha
swirled the audience with tappas and Indian classical
compositions. The mood of the audience was further elevated by the
light and Sufi music of Jasmeet Sagoo and Sonali Sen.
To add the tinge of polychromasia, instrumental music by Sagar
Chawla, Supavitra Mehratra and Yashu Joshi mesmerized the audience.
One of the major additions to
Swaranjali this year was the PURPLE RAIN - the western music band of
the society ... they performed in various colleges of Delhi
University and even outside Delhi in NSIT, IIT Kanpur and at the
Music Fest in Jaipur. The list includes songs by Led Zeppelin
Maroon, 5 Korn Amy Lee and many more.
The society won 42 awards
altogether. In the classical dance category, Ananksha Bhakoo, Kaveri
Pathela, Ritika Agarwal and Mansi halder were at their best with
sculpture and intricacies of dance. They had to their credits
12/11/11 awards. In all the efforts, the name of Sakshi Rawat,
Barneli Das, Ishmeet Singh, Abhimanyu and Udipto Das are worth
mentioning.
The President and Vice President of
the Society introduced various reforms to the administration of the
society and brought to the doorstep of the society various new
avenues to expand its creative horizons. Most importantly, it was
the support of our principal Dr. V.K. Kawatra and our ECA convenor
Dr. Rachna Sharma that helped us bring our aspirations and dreams
come to reality.
